Sea Salt Nutella Pistachio Puppy Chow

I often browse other recipe blogs in my (not so) spare time. One such blog - Layers of Happiness - has quickly become a favorite. Their photos are stunning and their recipes all sound amazing.

Recently, I was inspired by LOH to make the most-delicious puppy chow I've ever put in my mouth! When I came across their post for this insanely tasty treat, I could not look away. There on my computer screen was the most amazing looking puppy chow I had ever laid eyes upon. It was everything I never knew I wanted in puppy chow and somehow more.

How I had never discovered Layers of Happiness, a dreamy blog written by a beautiful mother-daughter duo, until recently is beyond me. But, boy, am I glad I did. I had two boxes of Honey-Nut Chex cereal on my pantry shelf (thanks to a sale and coupons, I snatched them up a couple of weeks ago for like, a buck a box) and no one in the Joyously Domestic household was choosing it as their cereal of choice.

It dawned on me to make some type of puppy chow, but I didn't want to go the traditional Peanut Butter and Chocolate Puppy Chow route. I've made lots of other versions through the years -  Cake Batter Puppy Chow and Peppermint Candy Cane Crunch Puppy Chow are a couple of our family favorites - all using either the wheat, corn and/or rice varieties. But, what to do with Honey-Nut flavored cereal?

I typed in Honey-Nut Chex Puppy Chow in the search box (thanks, Google) and stumbled upon the most-gorgeous photos of puppy chow I had ever seen. Yes, pics of puppy chow can be breathtaking - you'll agree when you visit Layers of Happiness. (In comparison, I'm almost embarrassed to post the photos I took when I made this recipe.)

Their photos instantly lured me right in.

Then, I read the ingredients.

Nutella. OMG!

Pistachios. Undeniably the best nut ever.

Sea salt. I'm a sweet-salty combo lover to the nth degree!

Butter. Hello, love of my life.

(P.S. You had me at Nutella, Emily and Jen.)

This puppy chow will knock your ever-lovin' socks off, friends. I had the perfect occasion for whipping up a double batch - the family was gathering for cards and libations the following evening. Card night means snacks. And, I had found the most-perfect snack of all.

You absolutely MUST head over to Layers of Happiness and check this recipe out. I followed it to a tee and it was nothing short of heavenly. It was just as divine as Emily and Jen promised it would be.

Just trust me and make it, will ya? And, heed the "warning" from Emily and Jen - get your stretchy pants on because once you start eating this ... you won't be able to stop.
